A Surprise (Birthday) Proposal
When you know, you know. So before their first year was out, Ravi decided to propose. But how would he pop the question? On February 9th, their anniversary? Maybe Valetines Day? No and no. Both were too predictable. Ravi wanted to catch Tiffy by complete surprise. But how? The answer: Ravi decided to ask for the best birthday present of all. On February 16th, Ravi's birthday, Ravi popped the question, and Tiffany said yes!
Earlier that week, Tiffany booked a special birthday dinner for Ravi at their favorite restaurant, Hamersley's Bistro, in Boston's South End (and, if you haven't tried Hamersley's, what are you waiting for?!). In secret and with the help of Hamersley's wonderful staff, Ravi created a special dessert menu just for Tiffany. Each selection alluded to memories from their year together.
Dinner proceeded quite normally (except for Ravi's copious intake of wine). When Tiffany excused herself to the restroom, Ravi ran to the coatroom (where Ravi had, characteristically, forgotten the ring) and as he sat down at the table, the waiter brought the special dessert menu. As Ravi and the waiter talked about the pending proposal, most of the restaurant figured out what was going on. It was a wonder that Tiffany didn't notice everyone watching her as she returned to the table.
Tiffany spent a couple of moments scanning the menu before she focused on one of the dessert selections. In all seriousness, she suggested that they share the Fat-Free, Vitamin Fortified Carrot Bars with Buttermilk Frosting. Ravi handed her an envelope labeled "Need Help Deciding?", knelt down on one knee, and asked Tiffany - "Will you marry me?". The restaurant erupted in applause. As Tiffany's eyes welled up with tears, she said, "But, its your birthday!"
